The Lutheran Catechetical Society meets throughout the year to consider topics of interest. Some of those gatherings are taught by area pastors; for others, the society invites a speaker from the Church at large. Whenever these speakers come into our midst, the sessions are video-recorded, edited, and made into DVDs – which are then made available for others. Since the Bloomington North Circuit is geographically located within easy driving distance from either seminary, has a major interstate running directly through it (and is within 20 miles of two other major interstates), and has access to many major airports, securing speakers is considerably easier than in other areas.
It is the thought of the LCS that it would be a shame, then, (especially with such excellent video technology available to the consumer) to invite a doctor or teacher of the Church to speak and sit at his feet… but then not make his presentation available to the rest of the Church. Thought is given during the editing and DVD-making process to make these presentations as class- or congregation study-friendly as possible; reproducible study guides and/or outlines are generally included.
The DVDs produced from these sessions are always available, since the whole process (editing, mixing, burning, duplicating) is done “in-house” – if more are requested, more are created! The fees are low… generally just enough to recoup media/case/operating and equipment expenses.
