Songs of Eden

Sinfonia Smith Square, London, SW1P 3HA

The LCS presents a powerful programme of contemporary music celebrating planet earth. As a time of renewal and rebirth, Easter provides the inspiration for this journey across musical lands and languages.

From the Pacific coast and the music of Eric Whitacre, to the East Coast composer Caroline Shaw, across the globe to Norwegian Ola Gjeilo and on to Lithuanian-born Onute Narbutaite, these rich and varied geographical landscapes are brought vividly to life by these contemporary composers.

The programme culminates with the premiere of British-born Edward Picton-Turbervill’s ‘Out of Eden’, an epic multi-movement work which acknowledges and laments our impact on the planet. The piece will take the audience on a cathartic journey from grief and shame to a vision of hope for the future, of a world made anew.

Through inspiring texts, spectacular instrumentation, and soundscapes inspired by the world around us, this concert becomes a call to action – an expression of deep gratitude and love for the earth, which inspires us to think more deeply about our collective roles and responsibilities in shaping its future.
